In 1976 a “Study Group” was formed by several people who had heard of UFMCC and were interested in establishing such a church in San Antonio. Worship meetings were first held in private homes before being held at Penny’s Pub (a local gay bar). Alvis Strickland of MCC Dallas was appointed by the MCC District Committee to come to San Antonio every other weekend to conduct services.
In 1977 the Study Group was approved for affiliation with the UFMCC and Rev. David Pellitier, who had befriended the group, arranged for them to hold services in the local Unitarian Church; Rev. Judy Davenport became the worship coordinator.

In 1978 Rev. James Lewey became worship coordinator and the mission statement for the San Antonio group was approved by the MCC District leaders. In 1979 MCC San Antonio was incorporated with a membership of 27 people and received full church status. Rev. Lewey was elected as first pastor of MCCSA and served in that capacity for 16 years.
In 1980 MCCSA purchased its first building at 107 S. Pine St.; four years later we purchased our second location, 1136 W. Woodlawn, however, we did not move in until 1985. During the time renovating the new location, MCCSA met in a building on Rittiman Road.

In 1995 Rev. Marilyn Marr was appointed Interim Pastor and in 1996, we purchased and moved into our current location, 611 E. Myrtle. The purchased was made possible by a bequest from the estate of Jerry Kaufmann, a member of MCC San Antonio; our social hall is names in his honor, Kaufmann Hall.
In 1997 Rev. John Nicholas was installed and served as pastor of MCCSA until October of 2005; in January of 2006 Pastor Kevin Downer served as interim pastor for an appointed one year period. In December of 2006 Rev. Mick Hinson was elected as the Pastor of MCCSA and in March of 2007 he assumed full responsibility of MCC San Antonio.

Currently, our membership has grown to 300+ members; we also have five different services as well as over 10 ministries to offer to our community. With so much growth in our community we’ve purchased land at 127 Rainbow in the hopes of building a new structure to accommodate our growing congregation. We hope you’ll visit us soon and become a part of our MCC San Antonio family!
